Just walked past the old house on gwernllwynchwyth road and it looks like someone is cutting down all the trees. Hell of a mess up there. Anyone know what is going on? Is it the new site for the Gypsys?

I am absolutely fed up of being steamrollered by this council. It seems no matter where there is a piece of land they will ape houses to be built on it. It does'nt seem to matter whether they allow building on the old quarry or old mine works. And they don't seem to take into concideration the fact that the schools are already full to capacity. I have lived in Birchgrove for 43 years and I am now seriously beginning to consider moving from here before there is absolutely nowhere green left.

Hello Dai, the Council took the decision to demolish the Pavilion in the Park. We are in discussions with them at the moment. We will pass on further details as soon as we receive these. Regards

Do you have the contact details, of which person who decided to remove te pavilion. terrible.

I walk my dog in the park everyday and I could not believe thath pavilion has been knocked down. I remember when I was very young and the building was in use. It was great for the community. Is it going to be rebuilt?

Visited the park today to find 3 work men and a pile of rubble. Absolutely disgusted that the pavilion has been knocked down after all the hard work to save it.

Many thanks for the comment on the website. We have now registered your account on the forum, so please feel free to post on there. We had to make the forum registration only, as we were getting a lot of spam added to the pages as it was open for anybody to add. On the Graffiti problem, we agree it is terrible that someone gets a kick from destroying the environment that so many enjoy. We also contacted Swansea Council back in January, but because the majority of the graffitti is on the Railway bridge, they have said it is the responsibilty of Network Rail (NR) to Clean. NR are aware of the graffitti and have said that they will programme the clean. Their details can be found here http://www.networkrail.co.uk/aspx/1022.aspx Thanks

Hi Tryed putting something up on Firum but got problems registering, I noticed that there is a lot of Graffiti been sprayed to the signs and Conrete walls around J44 roundabout. I reported it to the council, but noticed more on the electrical box on the top junction by the traffic lights coming up from j44 roundabout.

I would like to make a comment, about Birchgrove Traffic Lights (heading to Jct 44 Roundabout). Twice now, I've had to break hard from travelling at 20MPH through the traffic lights, because of the cars coming out of their drives, while I have been passing through the Traffic lights, while I have been on my way to work. I would like something to be done about this, whether they should have an independent traffic light, to allow their entry onto the main road, or that there is any other solution to this problem. I'm glad to have heard about the pavilion, and the 6 month extended notice, but as this is going on, the recession is being continued, and even though we have signed a petition to keep it, something tells me, that it won't be long, before its vandalised by teenagers, and will need to be ripped down anyway. Thanks. 26 April 2010 15:23:52

In the past week or so two persons have been handed Section 59 warnings for annoyance on motor cycles in Trewen Road, this means if they are caught or stopped again for similar reasons , then their bikes will be confiscated and a hefty payment needed to recover them or risk them being crushed. Also one person on Parc y Helig was issued a cannabis warning for possesion and anoyher arrested for same offence at the same location. 07 March 2010 16:33:37

Hi, Just wondering if someone can enlighten me on some local history. Walking on the disused part of Gwernllwynchwyth Road (walking from G'chwyth Road by Ffordd Scott to the Bypass), we noticed there is a long stone brick surrounding wall or building with an arched doorway. Anyone know what this building was? Also, can anyone tell me where Gwernllwynchwyth House was situated? I'd like to suggest that the BCA set up a forum on this website, to provide a bit more interactivity between locals? Thanks, 01 March 2010 15:35:31

MISSING CAT My beloved 10/11 month old cat Yoshi is currently missing in the Birchgrove, and possibly Llansamlet or other surrounding areas. He lives on GlanBran Road and has been missing for over a week now. He is a male, un-neutered moggy with a black and white tuxedo pattern (Black with white moustache, bib, belly and socks. He is wearing a green collar with a red outline and a green bell. He has a tag but since it is so new, it is unfortunately blank. If anyone has seen this cat around the area, please let me know immediately! I'm hoping he is just courting, though he is so young and so friendly, he could by anywhere. I would like to express my concern for the pedestrians walking at top of Heol Las joining on to Birchgrove rd, there is no pavement and the cars come speeding through, it is very dangerous, the speed limit should be reduced, as there is an accident waiting to happen, nobody seems to want to help, everyones passing the buck. 13 January 2010 18:12:08

i am very impressed to see that there is a police officer by the primary school and also the comp in the morning and in the evening. I feel it is a pitty that Birchgrove has nothing to offer children, there is not much going on in the community centre for them and more and more are on the streets. also Birchgrove main road is terrible, the cars and vans race for the traffic lights and people in the houses are taking a risk every time they pull out of there drives. 24 October 2009 01:02:16

Having grown up a stone's throw from Heol Las park, it's a shame to see it gradually deteriorate. Why is Ynystawe Park so well maintained less than 2 miles away? I remember 'Parky' who used to man the office in the Pavillion - no one would step out of line on his watch in the late 80s (when you had to pay to play tennis). At least there were tennis courts then. Tarmac courts are better than nothing and easier/cheaper to maintain. My answer would be for the new or renovated Pavillion to be manned part time by the local Police who could use it as a base of operations. With vehicular access at the North and South ends it makes sense. Also a few street lamps wouldn't go a miss. 28 September 2009 20:14:35

I have just received a fl-yer through my door from the Birchgrove Community Association, regarding the Councils proposal to demolish the pavilion at Heol Las park. There are a couple of questions i would like answered. 1 At the moment do any of the Football / Rugby teams actually use it as a changing facility?. 2 Are there facilities installed, IE, water, electricity, drainage?this would be a huge expense to upgrade this system, showers etc. 3 The biggest problem i can see, is how to make a refurbished building, vandal proof, £111000, is a huge resource for the council to find, in these times of financial restraint, only for it to end up 18 months down the line, in the same condition as it is in now. Its a tragedy to see it falling into disrepair, as it holds memories and historic value to many in the Birchgrove community, but without any form of security measures running alongside the refurbishment project, i fear it will be a waste of money. Its a shame local youths, cant apprec

Hi! I am sorry that I am unable to attend the next meeting concerning Birchgrove Community. 1. I would like to know what is or can be done as regards the speed limit in the Birchgrove / Heol Las area, this is a joke waiting for an accident to happen, it seems as if my family are the only ones abiding by it and the others over taking us and giving a load of abuse, also does the speed limit apply to Taxi's and Buses. 2. Cars parking on the pavement along Heol Las, not allowing enough room for my daughter to get passed in her wheel chair, she has to go into the road which is very dangerous at the speed the traffic travels at.. 3. Pot holes net to be tackled following the very cold spell. 4. Heol Las Park, the pavilion, why will it cost so much to knock it down and rebuild it. 22 March 2009 21:26:30

I WALK DOGS LATE AT NIGHT AND ASSURE YOU THAT THESE KIDS ARE THERE AROUND 10.30 / 11.00 PM. I HAVE SEEN THEM COMING DOWN FROM BIRCHGROVE ROAD WITH WHITE CARRIER BAGS FULL OF WINE, CANS AND VODKA.
