Speeding Problems on Birchgrove Roads
|
|
Recently 20mph signs have been placed in strategic locations around
the village. Unfortunately many motorists are ignoring these signs and
driving well above the speed limit.
If you have been affected by speeding motorists in Birchgove, let us know. Click Here to send us your comments. We will try to add these to this page.

The Birchgrove Community Association recently queried the legality of
the signs to the South Wales Safer Camera Partnership. We asked "Recently
a new speed limit, of 20mph, has come into force in the Birchgrove area
of Swansea. The area covers Heol Las and the estate entered through
Heol Nant Bran and Heol Dulais. As far as we can see this limit has been
totally ignored by most people and speeds in excess of 40mph are being
reached. So far we have seen no signs of the new speed limit being
enforced and wonder why go to the cost of erecting all the road signs
and bright flashing lights only for the limit to be ignored. We as a
community association would welcome speed cameras into the area whether
they be fixed or temporary, as the speed limit was introduced for the
safety of all."
The response received was " Thank you for
your question. 20mph speed limits are put into place by the Unitary
Authority and not the Safety Camera Partnership and are 'self
enforcing'. In order to find out why this new speed limit has been
introduced you would have to contact the Swansea Road Safety Team.
Should you have any concerns regarding a particular area and wish for
the Safety Camera Partnership to take it into consideration for mobile
enforcement, please put your concerns in writing to: The Partnership
Manager,
Mid and South Wales Safety Camera Partnership, PO Box 596, Oystermouth Road, Swansea, SA1 9HJ
On receipt of your letter it will be sent to the regional Safety Camera
Partnership co-ordinator who will conduct a 7 day (24 hours a day) speed
survey to find out if there is a speeding problem in the area or,
whether the problem is a perceived speeding problem. The Partnership
will also look at collision / casualty history along the section of
road.
In order for the Partnership to 'take on' a new site for enforcement we
must adhere to guidance set by Welsh Assembly Government. A copy of
this guidance is attached for your perusal" (Please see the Welsh Office Guidance)
